Osteoporosis Risk
The National Osteoporosis Foundation reports that osteoporosis is a major health threat for 55 percent of Americans age 50 and older.
Risk factors for osteoporosis include:
- Age
- Family history
- Lack of exercise
- Diet
Benefits of Bone Density Testing
Bone density tests are used to diagnose osteoporosis. People with lower bone densities are more likely to break bones. The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends bone density testing for:
- Women 65 and older
- Men 70 and older
- People who break a bone after age 50
- Men and women with risk factors
We use Quantitative Computed Tomography to test bone density. This test is one of the most accurate tests because it accurately measures bone density in the “soft” bone of the spine – one of the first places people develop osteoporosis.
